Introduction

Making the correct diagnosis when tendons are involved is essential to correctly managing the condition. It is useful when clinically reasoning to understand the load and capacity dynamics of tendons. There are tensile, compressive and shearing loads. These loads contribute to tendon pathology and, depending on the capacity of the tendon, can cause different pathology within the tendons and surrounding structures. There are also key clinical signs and symptoms that can help you accurately diagnose tendinopathy. This course will cover the different types of load that can contribute to tendon pathology and give you some insights into how to clinically reason between various tendon pathologies.

Aims

This course aims to provide you with knowledge of the different types of loads that can influence tendon pathology as well as introduce you to various questions and clinical findings that can help you to correctly diagnose tendinopathy.

Outline

This course is made up of videos, reading, discussions and a final quiz. The course content is split into the following sections:

  1. Video
  2. Reading activity
  3. Quiz

Target audience

This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.

Very informative and hands-on course! As a physio student, it helped me interpret different loads during the diagnostic process.

I work at a rehabilitation centre in the capital. This course helped me with the diagnosis of tendinopathy and musculoskeletal pain, which I hesitated to treat before, especially knee tendinopathy and lack of ligament. I am from a poor country where more patients cannot receive an MRI or ultrasound because they are expensive. The clinical exam is important to come up with the diagnosis. I do not speak English very well. I have had difficulties with understanding physioplus courses before, but this course is short and clear, and it is easy to understand. The reading is short also.

It's amazing to realize that tendinopathy can present as a big problem like in gluteal medius/minimus tendinopathy, it can be mistaken for hip joint pathologies.
