Concussion results in a constellation of physical, cognitive, visual, emotional, and sleep-related disturbances. In order for us to assess and treat concussion, we need to understand the mechanism of injury, and what happens to the brain at a macroscopic and microscopic level. We also need to understand the anatomy and function of the peripheral and central vestibular systems, and the different systems affecting postural control. This programme of courses addresses these needs and how they relate to the subjective and objective examination and the physiotherapy management of concussion.
This programme of courses provides an in-depth review of concussion neurophysiology, assessment and physiotherapy management.
This programme is made up of six courses, reading activities and a written assignment. The programme content is split into the following courses:
- Introduction to Concussion
- Vestibular Anatomy and Neurophysiology
- The Postural Control System
- Concussion Assessment
- Vestibular and Oculomotor Assessment
- Concussion Treatment
This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
