In January 2020 a new coronavirus was identified from a cluster of cases in the city of Wuhan, China. By mid March this virus outbreak was declared a pandemic by the WHO having infected over 150,000 individuals and caused over 5000 fatalities in 123 countries around the world.

All healthcare workers including physiotherapists / physical therapists have a vital role to play in the global efforts to manage the impact of this disease. This series of courses pulls together information relevant to all rehabilitation professionals to assist them to develop an understanding of the virus and the related disease, and to explore their role in working to treat related patients and also to contain and mitigate the disease.

Aims

To provide a practicing physiotherapist/physical therapist with the knowledge, practices and skills to allow them to play a proactive role in global and local efforts to reduce the impact of this pandemic.

Outline

This programme is made up of four courses covering the following topics:

  1. Introduction to Coronavirus Disease (COVID19)
  2. Infection Prevention and Control
  3. Role of Physiotherapy in COVID-19
  4. Respiratory Management of People with COVID-19

Target audience

This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.

Practicalities

Availability - this course is online and can be completed on your own schedule.

Hours of Learning - No deadlines are applied to this course and it can be started and completed in your own time according to your personal schedule. We expect the required elements to take around 10 hours depending on your schedule and learning style. Additionally there are many optional resources provided and if you choose to review these the course could take longer to complete.

Types of Activities - Watching videos, reading, a final quiz and participating in an international discussion forum.

Certificates - At the end of the course, when you have completed all of the required elements, you will be able to download a certificate of completion and 10.1 Plus points will be added to your personalised learning dashboard.

Requirements to complete this course

In order to complete this programme of courses and receive a course completion certificate plus CEUs/CCUs/CPD points you will need to:

  3. Actively and appropriately participate in the course discussions.
  4. Complete each of the required courses
  5. Submit a written assignment that meets that passes the assessment criteria.
