Erik Hammer graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (OT) and has been practising as an Occupational Therapist since 1993. He has worked in various healthcare settings, including level-one trauma hospitals, and with diverse patient populations. From 2013 to 2020, he was a certified brain injury specialist (CBIS), and throughout his career, Erik has had several rewarding positions, including clinical instructor, fieldwork coordinator, and supervisor. Erik has enjoyed presenting at conferences and works as an adjunct faculty member in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Austin Community College. He has also served as a board member with the DeafBlind Service Center of Austin. Erik has Usher’s Syndrome Type 2 and navigates independently in the community with the assistance of his guide dog from Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
