Introduction

A sports physiotherapist is involved in preventing and managing injuries resulting from sport and exercise participation. They provide evidence-based advice on safe participation in sport while promoting an active lifestyle. They are skilled in rehabilitation and training interventions to prevent injury, restore optimal function and contribute to the enhancement of sports performance. In this course, Dr. Ian Gatt provides us with some perspectives on being a sports physiotherapist and explains what a career in sports physiotherapy involves.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • discuss the role of the sports physiotherapist
  • explain the competencies required for sports physiotherapists
  • summarise athletes’ perspectives and expectations about the role of the sports physiotherapist
  • list at least three benefits of being a sports physiotherapist

Target audience

This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
