Introduction
Globally, over 430 million people, including 34 million children, require rehabilitation to address disabling hearing loss. This figure is expected to rise to over 700 million by 2050, or one in ten people worldwide. Hearing is essential for communication, environmental awareness, social engagement, and safe movement. The ability to hear impacts social participation, mental well-being, and physical and cognitive health. Audiologists play a key role in helping patients navigate hearing loss and optimise outcomes. This course introduces the rehabilitation professional to the role of the audiologist, covering the audiology assessment, available amplification technologies for hearing loss, and troubleshooting options for common hearing device issues.
