This course is part of a programme:
Introduction
Concussion produces many and varied symptoms. A similar injury can result in quite different presentations from one patient to the next. Concussion symptoms span five key domains: cognitive, emotional, sleep and fatigue, physical, and autonomic. This variability can make concussion difficult to manage. This course uses the "five lanes" analogy, likening the concussed brain to a congested highway. It will help you recognise the full symptom picture, distinguish overlapping presentations, and determine appropriate assessment and referral pathways.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- describe the five symptom domains of concussion and their characteristic clinical features
- identify the common causes of post-concussion dizziness, focusing on BPPV and how it is assessed and managed
- select appropriate assessment strategies and referral pathways for patients with concussion symptoms across different domains in given case scenarios
Target audience
This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
