Introduction

Prescribing physical activity well means guiding clients through safe progression while supporting long-term adherence. This course looks at the practical, everyday decisions physiotherapists face, from choosing the right setting and advancing exercise safely to recognising overtraining and using evidence-based strategies to support adherence. It also considers the real-world challenges faced by shift workers, people in sedentary jobs, and highly active recreational athletes.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • discuss the environmental, socioeconomic, and cultural factors that influence physical activity prescription, and the principles of progressive overload, periodisation, and overtraining
  • explain evidence-based strategies for supporting physical activity adherence
  • select appropriate progression and adherence strategies for healthy adults in given case scenarios

Target audience

This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.

We expect the required elements to take around 1-1.5 hours depending on your schedule and learning style.
