Introduction
Human health depends on flourishing natural systems on Earth. Any disruption of these systems can negatively affect our health. By protecting these systems, we ensure that humans continue to thrive. Planetary health is a specific field of population health that focuses on the interaction between human health and the health of our planet. As is discussed in this course, health professionals can contribute to planetary health and well-being by encouraging active transportation concepts such as cycling to and from work or school.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- describe active transportation
- explain the six interactions between the physiotherapist, active transportation, human health and the environment
- discuss active transportation interventions and recommendations
- evaluate the use of active transportation as an intervention based on a case scenario
Target audience
This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
