Einführung

This programme introduces the assessment and prescription of different types of orthoses. An orthosis is an external device that can support, protect and re-align different parts of the body. It can be an off-the-shelf (OTS) device or custom made for the individual user. This programme will explore when, why and where to use an orthosis and the important design features of each device. The use of orthotics should be part of a holistic treatment programme and for optimum outcomes, especially in more complex cases, part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach.

Ziele

The aim of this programme is to provide an overview of different types of orthoses, describe the clinical reasoning for prescription and design, and discuss the use of orthotics as part of a holistic rehabilitation programme.
