By the age of seven, most children will be ready to participate in formal learning and sports. However, some children may not develop the necessary postural control or motor skills to engage in these activities. There are many factors that could cause these delays, including genetic conditions, developmental disabilities and other environmental or personal factors. This course, the third in the series on the physical, cognitive and psychosocial development in early and middle childhood, explores some of the factors which affect a child’s development, as well as suggesting specific strategies which can be used to enhance a child’s participation in school and sports.
The aim of this course is to discuss academic readiness in children and to suggest practical strategies to help children who may not be ready to engage in formal learning. It also aims to introduce developmental disabilities in children.
This course is made up of videos, reading, forum posts and a final quiz. The course content is split into the following sections:

Great way of learning or improving your learning, particularly as a physiotherapy student, the resources and quizzes challenge my current knowledge and is a great way to test my learning, and expose me to areas of physio treatment or methods I did not know of before.
One thing that impressed me about this online course is if I have a question, there is always a quick response (the discussion forum is available all the time). This is critical when distance is involved. Excellent content and videos that build on your knowledge, reinforce, and then expand. The quizzes were well designed and very good learning tools.
