Introduction

Physiotherapists working with the paediatric population need to be knowledgeable about many common childhood conditions. The role of the physiotherapist is to facilitate functional independence for the child. This course discusses a further five conditions, focusing on diagnosis, assessment, intervention and complications. The five conditions explored in this course are autism spectrum disorder, developmental coordination disorder, spina bifida, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and haemophilia.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

• describe at least two clinical features of autism spectrum disorder, developmental coordination disorder, spina bifida, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and haemophilia
• explain the basic aetiology of autism spectrum disorder, developmental coordination disorder, spina bifida, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and haemophilia
• identify at least two rehabilitation interventions to help manage autism spectrum disorder, developmental coordination disorder, spina bifida, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and haemophilia

Target audience

This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.

We expect the required elements to take around 2-2.5 hours depending on your schedule and learning style.
