Introduction

Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel at the wrist. It is the most common entrapment neuropathy, with an estimated prevalence of 3.8% in the general population and 7.8% in the working population. Symptoms can include pain, weakness and paraesthesia. Carpal tunnel syndrome impacts productivity, function, and quality of life and has a financial impact associated with its management.
