Introduction

In order to understand the hip, clinicians need a comprehensive knowledge of the anatomy and biomechanics of the hip joint and its surrounding structures. Common hip conditions, including femoroacetabular impingement, snapping hip syndrome, trochanteric bursitis, osteoarthritis, hip fracture, and total hip arthroplasty, can cause restrictions in range of motion, stiffness and functional limitations in activities of daily living and sports. To differentiate between hip pathologies, the clinician needs to understand their clinical presentation and pathophysiology. A comprehensive physiotherapy assessment is necessary to ensure that clinicians select the appropriate therapeutic strategies for each patient. This series of courses provides a detailed discussion of the hip and introduces relevant clinical practice guidelines to guide clinical decision making.

Aims

This series of courses aims to introduce the anatomy and biomechanics of the hip, common hip pathologies, and their assessment and treatment. It uses clinical examples and looks closely at the evidence-base to provide intervention options that clinicians can immediately apply in physiotherapy practice.
