Vertigo is defined as the illusion of movement of oneself or of the environment. It is caused by dysfunction of the vestibular system. However, there is a range of non-vestibular conditions that cause similar symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness or a sensation of floating or swimming. Patients may use the term vertigo interchangeably with these other types of dizziness, so it is essential to conduct a thorough subjective and objective evaluation in order to determine the nature and cause of a patient’s symptoms.


This course aims to introduce you to the assessment of the vestibular patient, including the subjective evaluation, objective tests and specific outcome measures.
