AI at your fingertips
2024 marked a significant milestone for Plus with the launch of PAI – the Physiopedia AI Assistant. This innovative tool uses the power of AI and builds on the trusted knowledge base of Physiopedia and Plus. PAI enables rehabilitation professionals to find answers to complex rehabilitation questions quickly. It not only simplifies clinical decision-making but also empowers professionals to deliver more effective care. With PAI, users can ask rehabilitation-related questions in their preferred language, making it an inclusive and accessible resource for clinicians, educators and students alike.
This cutting-edge assistant is designed to complement skills and knowledge, streamline workflows and provide valuable support with fact-checking, assessment, treatment, communication and leadership recommendations. PAI also includes history, search, print and feedback options and is continually evolving to meet the needs of our users. Mastering AI in rehabilitation
The 2024 annual massive open online course (MOOC) was a resounding success, focusing exclusively on AI. The AI Masterclass for Healthcare Professionals was offered free of charge from 7 October to 15 November and gave a valuable educational opportunity for professionals worldwide. This comprehensive programme explored the vast potential of AI across healthcare sectors and provided a unique learning experience for participants. With four courses and two webinars, the MOOC offered a well-rounded understanding of AI’s capabilities, its applications and implications on the healthcare industry, research and education.
This AI Masterclass is still available on the Plus platform for Full and Pro Members. Whether you are a clinician, researcher, educator or healthcare administrator, this programme was designed to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to integrate AI into your professional life. Meeting global needs in education
Our talented team of instructors has helped us deliver a range of courses and webinars that bring real-world expertise directly to our learners. By incorporating practical or live patient demonstrations and case study discussions, these interactive sessions give participants a unique opportunity to see how experienced professionals assess and manage patients in practice – a hands-on approach that we know is essential for building confidence and competence. In partnership with USAID, we have developed 50 rehabilitation-specific courses that directly address the identified needs in low-income and conflict-affected regions. These courses include topics around cerebral palsy, early intervention, spinal cord injury, global health, clinical educator training, dysphagia, clinical reasoning, professional behaviours, documentation principles, complex injuries and multi-system conditions, management of patients with burns, management of burn wounds, assistive technologies and evidence-based practice.
Our dedicated translation team has worked hard to make the Plus courses accessible to rehabilitation professionals in different parts of the world, translating them into five languages: French (300 courses), German (400 courses), Italian (400 courses), Spanish (60 courses) and Ukrainian (300 courses). What makes this work stand out is our approach to translation. Rather than relying solely on automated tools, we combine AI technology with thorough manual checks. This ensures that translations are not only accurate but also professional, especially when dealing with complex technical terms and content. Fully automated translations often overlook these details, but by taking this extra care, we ensure that materials are reliable, culturally sensitive and easy to understand.
By removing language barriers, we enable rehabilitation professionals from diverse backgrounds to access essential learning resources, allowing them to expand their knowledge, enhance their skills, and stay up to date with the latest developments in their field. With the additional provision of context-specific content, we create opportunities for learning and professional growth that directly impact the quality of care healthcare professionals can provide to their patients, no matter where they are in the world.
The impact of this effort has been especially significant in Ukraine, where healthcare professionals have faced enormous challenges in recent times. To date, more than 16,000 courses have been completed by Plus members in Ukraine, and an incredible 117,000 learning activities have been logged. A true testament to how valuable these translated resources are in supporting professionals committed to providing quality care, even in the most challenging circumstances.

This year, our commitment to providing free access to quality education where it is needed the most continued to grow. Thanks to the generous support from each Plus member and USAID-funded activities like ReLAB-HS and Rehab4U we have provided more than 3,300 free Plus accounts to individuals in low-income and conflict-affected countries in 2024. This brings our total number of gifted accounts to a remarkable 25,753, helping bridge the knowledge gap for rehabilitation professionals worldwide.
Partnering in education
Throughout 2024, our partnerships grew significantly as we collaborated with leading organisations worldwide to advance healthcare education. Our network now spans over 40 countries and empowers hundreds of prestigious healthcare institutions. We are honoured to have renewed our longstanding partnerships with key professional associations, including PhysioSwiss, The Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP) and the South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP). This year, we warmly welcomed new members to our professional community, including the Hong Kong Physiotherapy Union and the Union of Physiotherapists of the Czech Republic.
Our university partnerships continue to thrive, with many institutions providing innovative educational opportunities for students and lecturers. Additionally, we are proud to support hundreds of clinics worldwide in their commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining up-to-date clinical skills. Plus remains deeply committed to supporting healthcare professionals in challenging environments, collaborating with non-profit organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) like the International Committee of the Red Cross and Humanity and Inclusion. Through our comprehensive suite of e-learning tools and resources, we enable organisations to provide seamless ongoing education and career advancement opportunities for their entire team. Our accreditation team worked tirelessly this year to secure approval from international boards and associations as a Continuing Education Provider. We believe that formal accreditation or approval is essential for ensuring the quality of continuing education courses, and we’re committed to meeting the highest standards globally. Plus has been recognised by some of the world’s leading organisations in healthcare, including World Physiotherapy, the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO), and many national associations.
In addition to our existing approvals in areas like the United States, Australia, and South Africa, we’re excited to announce that we are now an Approved Continuing Education Provider for physiotherapy in Uganda, Italy, Kenya and New York. We’ve also expanded our offerings with more courses approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and the Hong Kong Physiotherapy Union. This growth reflects our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality education opportunities that meet the needs of healthcare professionals worldwide. Building upon the immensely popular Exploring Anatomy Programme, we launched the Neuroanatomy Programme this year. This programme has seven courses and was created in collaboration with Primal Pictures, using their digital 3D anatomy models to present information in a way that is easy to understand and visualise.
