It is estimated that thirty percent of children experience chronic pain. This pain might be constant or intermittent, but it can significantly impact many aspects of a child's life, affecting their mental and physical health and their academic achievements. Identifying the factors contributing to a child's pain can make treatment more effective. Thus, when working with children in pain, it is essential to gain a holistic understanding of the child and explore the four pillars of health (stress, sleep, diet and exercise). Managing chronic pain in children requires a multi-tiered approach, but the ultimate aim of treatment is for children to learn what provokes their pain and to develop self-management strategies.

This series of courses aims to provide the learner with an understanding of chronic pain in children, from recognising potential causes of persistent pain to assessing and ultimately managing this condition.

General Assessment Considerations for Children with Pain
Pain Education for the Child and Parent
General Management of Paediatric Pain Problems

This programme is aimed at rehabilitation professionals, students and assistants including but not limited to Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Rehabilitation Doctors, Rehabilitation Nurses, Prosthetists, Orthotists, Psychologists, Audiologists, Dietetics, Social Workers. Community Health Workers, Nurses or Medical Doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.

Hours of Learning - No deadlines are applied to this course and it can be started and completed in your own time according to your personal schedule. We expect the required elements to take around 11-13 hours depending on your schedule and learning style. Additionally there are many optional resources provided and if you choose to review these the course could take longer to complete.

Types of Activities - Watching videos, reading, a final quiz and participating in an international discussion forum.

Certificates - At the end of the course, when you have completed all of the required elements, you will be able to download a certificate of completion and 10.8 Plus points will be added to your personalised learning dashboard.
