Introduction

Various tools are used to assess the paediatric population, from functional assessments to specific outcome measures. Assessing a child’s functional movement patterns provides information on their strength, range of motion, tone and coordination. Standardised assessment tools offer more detail on specific components and enable comparisons with age-matched norms. This course explores how to assess a child using functional movements and introduces three commonly used standardised outcome measures.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • identify the general purpose of the functional movement analysis for paediatric patients and which muscles may be affected in given case scenarios
  • compare the intended populations and general use of three standardised paediatric tests
