Introduction

Burn injuries are a global public health problem. Recovering from burn injuries can be a long, painful, and traumatic journey. Burn injuries can impact an individual's family and social life, as well as their work, school and recreation. Rehabilitation professionals must have knowledge of effective burn injury management to optimise quality of life in burn survivors. This course presents a case study of a patient with burn injuries to review the fundamentals of burn injury evaluation and treatment for rehabilitation professionals, from the early acute phase to the community / outpatient phase.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • identify key surgical interventions for burn injuries and typical precautions for autografts
  • select priority interventions and education topics for each phase of rehabilitation for patients with burn injuries, from acute care to community and outpatient care

Target audience

This course is aimed at rehabilitation professionals, students and assistants including but not limited to Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Rehabilitation Doctors, Rehabilitation Nurses, Prosthetists, Orthotists, Psychologists, Audiologists, Dietetics, Social Workers. Community Health Workers, Nurses or Medical Doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
