Strengthening Rehabilitation Services in Health Systems (SRSHS) is a USAID-funded project implemented by Momentum Wheels for Humanity (MWH) to strengthen rehabilitation service delivery systems and build workforce capacity. This project aligns with the World Health Organization’s Rehab2030 Agenda and engages national / regional policymakers to support the adaptation of global rehabilitation service standards to local contexts.

In Ukraine, the first phase of the SRSHS project started in 2019 and contributed to the development of rehabilitation policies and regulations at the national level, focusing on operationalization within hospital settings; advancing the professionalization of physical therapy; and establishing a greater demand for rehabilitation services. Currently, MWH and its partners are responding to ongoing and conflict-related needs by supporting the establishment of AT cabinets in healthcare facilities, building the capacity of academic staff and clinical supervisors to implement clinical placement programs for Master’s level physical therapy students, establishing a dedicated spinal cord injury (SCI) department at the Lviv Territorial Incorporation Multidisciplinary Hospital, expanding access to SCI clinical guidelines and training resources, developing a network of peer mentors with SCI to work within multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams, building the capacity of prosthetic and orthotic technicians, advancing PT professionalization, and strengthening capacity of local organizations to rapidly respond to the humanitarian needs of persons with disabilities.
