The recent Physiopedia led “Leadership for Rehabilitation Workforce Development and Education in Ukraine” meeting held in October 2024 provided the unique platform for Ukrainian Ministries, professional associations and training institutions to share, collaborate, discuss, inspire and motivate for improvement to align the rehabilitation professions to international standards.
The Leadership for Rehabilitation Workforce Development and Education in Ukraine meeting was held in Krakow, Poland and was an opportunity for collaboration on a broad scale. Participants of this 2-day meeting included representatives of Ukrainian universities, professional associations, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, USAID representative Kirsten Lentz, President of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists Samantha Shann, and representatives of Momentum Wheels for Humanity as well as the Physiopedia team.
This unique meeting was a truly collaborative and interprofessional platform that contributes to ongoing work of many towards strengthening rehabilitation in health systems in Ukraine. The meeting gave an opportunity to continue ongoing work to strengthen educational programmes in Ukraine to align with international standards, using the Academic Program Reflection Tool (APRT) of the International Rehabilitation Education and Training Toolkit (IRETT). The Professionalisation and Regulation Reflection Tool (PRRT) of the IRETT was used to discuss professionalisation and regulation of the rehabilitation professions. Samantha Shann, WFOT President, added to the discussions with her presentation highlighting the importance of strengthening interprofessional collaboration between associations and societies in Ukraine, which was especially timely and relevant. Finally, as well as discussion of teaching strategies to engage students in the classroom, the Clinical Skills Training Tool (CSTT) of the IRETT was used introduced to provide a tool for the participants to enhance their teaching strategies.
This activity is organised by Physiopedia as part of the Strengthening Rehabilitation Services in the Health Systems (SRSHS) activity, implemented by the Momentum Wheels for Humanity, with the support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
