Introduction
Even with the most effective wound care treatment plan, a wound can reopen without a proper oedema or pressure management system. Wound compression and / or offloading can be the missing component in preparing an ideal environment for wound healing. Wound compression therapy involves the use of controlled external pressures to improve blood circulation, reduce peripheral oedema, and promote wound healing by facilitating the removal of excess fluid from a wound site. Wound offloading is the reduction or redistribution of pressure, force, or weight from a specific area of the body, such as a wound site, to promote healing.
This course provides an overview of two key techniques that round out a holistic wound treatment plan, wound compression and offloading methods.

At the end of this course you will be able to:
- identify three common bedside assessments performed prior to beginning compression or offloading interventions
