Every cancer journey tells a unique story and as rehabilitation professionals we witness this uniqueness daily in our patient’s resilience, their challenges and their triumphs. The theme for World Cancer Day 2025 “United by Unique” celebrates these individual journeys while highlighting the power of collective action in improving cancer care.

Today 4 February is World Cancer Day, and this year a day to consider the theme “United by Unique”. Cancer touches us all. Whether through supporting patients in our professional practice, witnessing the journey of family members or perhaps navigating our own experience with the disease, we understand that each story is different. This personal connection drives our commitment to providing individualised care and continuously expanding our knowledge. Recent studies have shown that early rehabilitation interventions, such as multimodal prehabilitation, can improve functional outcomes by over 50% and reduce postoperative complications by up to 30%, while significantly enhancing quality of life scores in cancer survivors.

As the world’s largest rehabilitation knowledge platform, Physiopedia supports this year’s theme by connecting healthcare professionals across the world, empowering them to deliver evidence-based personalised care. Through Physiopedia Plus online learning, clinicians can access not only rehabilitation courses such as an overview of Prostate Cancer but also courses on communication, allowing them to tailor not only their interventions but their approach so that each patient’s unique needs are recognised and respected. There is also the Physiopedia AI Assistant (PAI) – your personal AI rehabilitation assistant and your very own clinical mentor. PAI can aid in developing personalised treatment plans by providing access to the latest rehabilitation programmes and exercise recommendations – enhancing clinician’s ability to provide tailored, evidence-based care that meets the unique needs of each patient. Indeed, rehabilitation needs vary hugely from person to person. From managing post-mastectomy lymphoedema to addressing chemotherapy side effects, from supporting return to work goals to helping patients regain their confidence in social settings. Each intervention must be as unique as the individual we are supporting, backed by current evidence and tailored to personal circumstances.

This is where the strength of our professional community shines. Through Physiopedia, rehabilitation professionals worldwide share expertise, research, and clinical experiences, creating a living repository of evidence-based practice in oncology rehabilitation. Our comprehensive oncology section provides detailed insights into various cancer types, their treatments and rehabilitation approaches

Physiopedia Plus takes learning further, offering specialised courses in rehabilitation and communication that help clinicians develop advanced skills in areas such as spinal malignancy and mindfulness in pain and stress management. This shared knowledge base enables us to provide care that is both evidence-based and personalised.

As we mark World Cancer Day 2025, we celebrate both the uniqueness of each cancer journey and the unity of our professional community in supporting these journeys. Through Physiopedia and Physiopedia Plus, we continue to build a stronger, more knowledgeable rehabilitation workforce capable of delivering personalised evidence-based care. Together, we spread the word that while cancer affects everyone differently, the power of united, informed care can make a significant difference in each unique story.
