Creating evidence-based rehabilitation content that serves clinicians worldwide is no small feat. Yet Physiopedia’s international team of editors and volunteers does exactly that, developing trusted resources that reach millions of healthcare professionals annually. What’s their secret? A unique collaborative approach that’s transforming how rehabilitation knowledge is shared globally.

Have you ever wondered how a Physiopedia page comes to life? Each page is the result of a collaborative effort by our dedicated volunteer team and you, combining expert knowledge, thorough research, and a passion for advancing global rehabilitation. Here is an inside look at the process behind creating the high-quality, evidence-based content that Physiopedia is known for.

Step 1: Identifying need

We begin by identifying topics that need new content or updates. This could be inspired by emerging research, feedback from the Physiopedia community or global healthcare trends. Our volunteer editors prioritise these topics to ensure relevance and value to the physiotherapy and wider rehabilitation community.

Step 2: Research and planning

Once a topic is selected, editors dive into the research. Using primary sources, peer-reviewed journals, and the latest evidence-based guidelines, they gather the information needed to create a comprehensive and accurate page. Volunteers also review similar topics already existing on Physiopedia to ensure consistency and avoid duplication.

Step 3: The first draft

The next stage is bringing the page to life. The page is structured to ensure clarity and flow, typically including an introduction, key concepts, assessment methods, treatment options and references. The content is written with healthcare professionals in mind, ensuring the content is detailed yet easily applicable.

Step 4: Quality assurance

Every page is reviewed by the team. This includes: fact-checking to ensure all claims are backed by reliable evidence; editing for clarity to polish the language and structure for better readability; and double-checking references to ensure that all citations are appropriate, recent and high quality.

Step 5: Sharing

Once reviewed and approved, the page is published on Physiopedia. At this stage, it becomes part of the world’s largest free online physiotherapy resource, accessible to practitioners, educators and students globally.

Step 6: Continuous improvement

Even after publication, the work is not over. Editors regularly revisit pages to update them in response to feedback and/or with the latest research. This commitment ensures that Physiopedia remains a trusted, up-to-date and evidence-based resource for rehabilitation professionals worldwide.

Every Physiopedia page is a reflection of the collective effort of the international volunteer team or editors. But we can’t do this alone, we also need your feedback. Whether you are an experienced clinician or a student looking to make an impact, your voice is important to us. Together we can work to make the Physiopedia  mission – to improve global health by sharing free rehabilitation knowledge – a reality!
