Treatment approaches vary by disease stage, from education and energy conservation in early stages to maximising independence through postural training and assistive devices in advanced stages. Exercise remains essential throughout all stages, with evidence supporting both aerobic and strength training for improving fatigue, mobility and quality of life.
The multisystem nature of MS demands interprofessional care involving neurologists, physical therapists, pain specialists, ophthalmologists, mental health professionals, and other specialists. This collaborative approach addresses the complex array of symptoms including spasticity, balance deficits, cognitive impairment, depression, bladder dysfunction, and fatigue.
World MS Day 2025 reminds us that behind every diagnosis statistic is an individual facing uncertainty, lifestyle changes and the need for specialised care. Early and accurate diagnosis provides the foundation for effective treatment, better outcomes and improved quality of life.
