The new Learning on TAP free online learning platform, a collaboration between the World Health Organization (WHO) and Physiopedia, launches this Friday 12 December 2025 on Universal Health Coverage Day.
Physiopedia has partnered with the WHO to design and launch Learning on TAP, a free online education platform aimed at strengthening healthcare workforce capacity in primary care and community settings. Learning on TAP provides learning resources specifically designed for healthcare workers including doctors, nurses, pharmacists and community health workers who work in these settings. Primary health care forms the foundation of a sustainable health system, by ensuring that health and community workers can provide services where and when people need them. WHO is commited to advancing universal health coverage and so the launch of this new platform has been coordinated with this year’s Universal Health Coverage Day on Friday 12 December 2025, with a hybrid event at the WHO Academy in Lyon, France. This year’s Universal Health Coverage Day theme focuses on protecting people from financial hardship when accessing health services, a goal that depends on having trained healthcare workers available in primary care settings. Physiopedia’s Technical Director Tony Lowe led the technical design and implementation of the website, working closely with the WHO Assistive Products team to create an accessible and user-friendly platform that reflects best practices in online health education. The collaboration draws on Physiopedia’s decade-long experience in delivering evidence-based rehabilitation education to millions of healthcare professionals globally.
The platform currently features three specialised courses covering assistive technology, eye and vision care and vision and hearing screening. These courses address critical healthcare needs, with 2.5 billion people worldwide requiring assistive products and one in five children having undetected vision or hearing problems.
The courses are modular by design, allowing learners to complete online content at their own pace before optionally participating in in-person mentored practice sessions. Each course incorporates interactive elements including activities, videos and quizzes to engage learners effectively. The blended learning approach ensures that healthcare workers can develop practical skills whilst accessing theoretical knowledge flexibly, making professional development achievable even in resource-limited settings.
