Reflection is often the professional development that gets pushed aside, but it doesn’t have to be. Work Reflection is a new feature guided by the Physiopedia AI assistant (PAI) on your Physiopedia Plus (Plus) dashboard that turns a recent work event into a short guided conversation and saves the write-up straight to your activity log, ready for appraisal or your portfolio.
Every physiotherapist knows reflection matters. It’s how a tricky case becomes a lesson, how a difficult conversation with a colleague becomes better judgement next time, how everyday practice turns into genuine professional growth. Yet, for most clinicians, reflection is the development activity that keeps getting pushed to “later”, because starting is hard, structuring your thoughts is harder and turning it into something you’d actually want in your portfolio is harder still.
To support you in this we’re launching Work Reflection, a new PAI-guided feature on your Plus dashboard that makes reflecting on a recent work event as easy as having a short conversation and saves it straight to your Plus activity log when you’re done.
The biggest barrier to reflective practice usually isn’t motivation, it’s the blank page. Work Reflection removes this barrier. Click Reflect on your dashboard, or Reflect with PAI from your activity log and describe a recent event that stood out: a challenging case, a shift in your clinical thinking, a moment of teamwork, a service change at work. Whatever felt significant.
PAI takes it from there, guiding you through a short, focused conversation (about 5–7 minutes) using the well-known What? / So what? / Now what? structure: what happened, why it matters to your practice and what you’ll do differently or explore next. PAI acts as a professional learning assistant and mentor, not a substitute for your own judgement. If you prefer a different reflective model, such as Gibbs or Johns, just ask and PAI will adapt the structure of your summary accordingly. At the end, PAI writes up your reflection in your own voice, ready for your review.
This is where Work Reflection really saves you time: there’s no copying, pasting or hunting for a separate form. PAI presents your reflection directly inside the chat as a pre-filled activity log entry ready to go. You review it, edit anything you want to change and save it in a single click.
If your reflection mentions identifiable patients or colleagues, PAI will flag that and remind you to anonymise those details before saving.
Every saved reflection is stored in your Plus activity log alongside your other learning activity, where it’s available whenever you need it, for professional reporting, appraisal, portfolio evidence or simply to export and print. Work Reflection turns the moments that would otherwise stay in your head, or get scribbled in a notebook and forgotten, into properly documented evidence of your professional development.

If your reflection surfaces a genuine learning gap, PAI may suggest relevant Plus courses tailored to what you’ve shared which you can add straight to your courses to-do list. A 5-minute reflection can become the starting point for your next bit of structured learning.
Priya, a senior physiotherapist in a busy outpatient clinic, had just finished a session with a patient whose progress had unexpectedly plateaued. It wasn’t a crisis, but it had made her rethink her approach to goal-setting with long-term pain patients. Exactly the kind of moment that’s valuable to capture and exactly the kind she’d normally never get around to recording.
Between patients, she opened her Physiopedia Plus dashboard and clicked Reflect. In under 5 minutes, PAI had walked her through what happened, why it mattered, and what she wanted to try differently. When PAI presented the pre-filled activity log form, Priya adjusted a couple of phrases so the reflection sounded more like her own voice, removed a specific date that could have identified the patient and saved it. The whole thing took so little time her coffee was still hot.
A month later, pulling together evidence for her annual appraisal, she found this reflection entry sitting neatly in her activity log, no digging through notebooks, no trying to reconstruct what she’d been thinking months earlier.
Work Reflection is available now to all logged-in Plus members with PAI access. Just log in to your Plus dashboard and click Reflect on the notice at the top of the page, or use Reflect with PAI from your activity log.
A few tips to get the most out of it:
- Reflect on events while they’re still fresh. The closer to the experience, the richer the detail.
- Don’t wait for something dramatic; everyday moments of teamwork, decision-making, or service change are just as valuable as complex clinical cases.
- Take a moment to review PAI’s summary before saving, make sure it genuinely uses your voice and double-check for accuracy and anything that needs anonymising.
Whether it’s a complex case, a conversation with a colleague or a change in how your team works, Work Reflection helps you turn everyday practice into evidence of the learning that’s happening all the time. Log in and click Reflect to try it today.
