Dr Candace Vermaak is a qualified biokineticist with an Erasmus Mundus MSc in Adapted Physical Activity from the University of Leuven, Belgium and Limerick, Ireland and a PhD from Stellenbosch University, South Africa. She has worked in various rehabilitation settings, from government-based hospitals to non-profit organisations with a special focus on rehabilitating persons with spinal cord injuries and stroke. She is currently a lecturer at Stellenbosch University in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. She teaches courses on different disabilities, managing and preventing chronic and secondary conditions in persons with disabilities, and health and wellness.
