Introduction

Why do some people live longer, healthier lives than others, even within the same health system? The answer often lies not only in access to healthcare or personal health decisions, but in many interconnected factors. These factors are known as determinants of health. Social determinants of health refer to the conditions in the environments in which people are born, live, learn, work, play, and age. Social determinants can significantly impact a person's health and rehabilitation outcomes, function and overall quality of life. As rehabilitation professionals, identifying these non-medical factors is crucial for effective care, particularly for vulnerable populations.
