Physiopedia team members have conducted new research demonstrating how interdisciplinary education transforms rehabilitation practice in Pakistan, offering a blueprint for improving spinal cord injury care in resource-limited settings worldwide.

When rehabilitation professionals in Pakistan completed an innovative training programme combining Physiopedia’s online courses with hands-on clinical skills development, something remarkable happened. Not only did their knowledge of spinal cord injury care improve, but their entire approach to patient care transformed through enhanced interprofessional collaboration. This transformation, documented in a new study published in the Journal of Interprofessional Practice and Collaboration, showcases how accessible education can really impact rehabilitation practices in regions where coordinated care has traditionally been limited.

The research was conducted by Shala Cunningham, Martina Lukin, Neelum Zehra and Rachael Lowe from Physiopedia, with support from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. It addresses a critical healthcare challenge in Pakistan, where spinal cord injury prevalence has surged, yet many individuals receive little to no rehabilitation after their injury, severely impacting recovery outcomes.
