Physiopedia AI Assistant (PAI) Tasks turns complex professional activities into guided, interactive learning experiences for physiotherapists. The new feature supports documentation skills, clinical reasoning and patient education, building on PAI’s successful adoption by thousands of therapists worldwide.
Wherever they are in the world physiotherapists are facing increasing demands on their time and expertise. While many digital tools promise to help, many actually add to the workload or push clinicians toward generic template-driven care. At Physiopedia we believe technology and tools can be developed to do better – enhancing clinical practice while preserving the vital human elements of healthcare.
Today we are very excited to announce the launch of Physiopedia AI Assistant (PAI) Tasks, a new suite of features for our clinical AI assistant that initiate complex supported clinical activities with single-click actions. But before explaining more we need to share our vision behind PAI and what drives us to take a different approach to AI in healthcare.

Our Vision for PAI
At the heart of PAI is a desire to support clinicians in delivering exceptional patient care. We believe our AI should:
- Enhance professional effectiveness while reducing the cognitive burden of routine tasks, allowing therapists to focus more time and energy on developing their skills and knowledge
- Act as a knowledgeable thinking partner and mentor, guiding learners through clinical reasoning and providing evidence-based insights that develop their professional skills and understanding
- Facilitate continuous professional development by explaining the ‘why’ behind recommendations and directing clinicians to the latest relevant research
- Preserve professional autonomy, ensuring clinicians maintain full control over their clinical decisions and patient data
- Uphold ethical principles through transparent, explainable AI that respects patient consent and privacy
Our goal is not to replace clinical expertise, automate patient care or increase the number of patients processed. Instead, PAI is a tool designed by clinicians, for clinicians, that complements and enhances the skilled work of physical therapy professionals with a focus on improving patient outcomes rather than simply increasing patient volumes and reducing costs.
Building the foundations
Since launching the PAI on June 11, 2024, we have been amazed by its adoption across the global physical therapy community. Since launch PAI has supported over 16,000 clinical conversations with 4,000 therapists across 144 countries. This worldwide adoption, spanning diverse healthcare settings and economic contexts, has provided invaluable insights into how an AI assistant can best serve practicing clinicians.
“PAI has transformed my daily practice. Having instant access to current evidence and treatment approaches makes me more confident in my clinical decisions. It’s like having a knowledgeable mentor in my pocket.”
– SC, Physiotherapist, Australia
Our first phase of PAI development focused on creating a reliable, evidence-based AI assistant that clinicians could trust as part of their daily learning practices. With a general chat interface and a searchable conversation history integrated into both the Plus web platform and the Plus mobile app, PAI has been helping therapists access targeted clinical knowledge on demand.
Based on user feedback and our team’s continuing evaluations, we have continued to improve PAI’s intelligence and added practical features such as built-in copy/paste, full-screen mode, and print options to enhance its usability. Our feedback mechanisms have also been crucial in understanding what works well and what needs improvement, helping us shape PAI into a more effective educational tool.

This iterative development process, guided by real-world use, has laid the groundwork for the next step. As we’ve watched therapists integrate learning with PAI into their practice, we’ve identified opportunities to make complex professional activities more accessible and structured as learning experiences. Today, we’re building on these foundations with the launch of PAI Tasks, a new set of tools that guide you through common professional activities step by step, drawing on your PAI conversations to support your reasoning and deepen your understanding.
Sarah’s morning with PAI
The drive to my first home visit had me worried – a complex post-stroke patient with recent falls is never straightforward. At a red light, I grabbed my chance: “Hey PAI, what are the key assessment components for a stroke patient with recent falls?” Just hearing myself talk through it helped, and scanning PAI’s response before heading in gave me the confidence boost I needed.
During the assessment, PAI became my thinking partner. Whenever I spotted something I wanted to understand better, I’d quickly dictate my observations and questions into the Plus PAI app. Having that immediate, evidence-based context and explanation made such a difference to my thinking. It is like having a knowledgeable mentor at hand that helped me reason through what I was seeing, rather than telling me what to do.
Back at my desk, I opened our conversation and clicked the new ‘Clinical documentation (SOAP Note)’ task. PAI walked me through the key elements of a well-structured SOAP note, prompting me to consider what I’d observed and why. Working through it together, I drafted clear, comprehensive notes that my colleagues will easily follow and my supervisor will love. No more end-of-day documentation stress! Even better, I know these notes clearly justify my clinical decisions and support my treatment plan. It’s amazing how something as simple as documentation can feel so satisfying when it’s done right.
Bringing PAI Tasks to life
Sarah’s story illustrates exactly what we’re aiming to achieve with PAI Tasks – seamless integration of AI augmented education into daily clinical practice, making complex professional activities accessible through guided, interactive learning. By analysing thousands of conversations between clinicians and PAI, we’ve identified the most common scenarios where these tasks can support administrative activities and enhance just in time clinical learning.
