The Physiopedia team will share their groundbreaking work in international rehabilitation workforce development at the upcoming Collaborating Across Borders (CAB) IX conference in Nebraska this May through two presentations highlighting innovative approaches to building rehabilitation capacity in low and middle income countries.
Physiopedia continues its mission of improving global health through rehabilitation knowledge sharing with two significant presentations at CAB IX 2025 conference in Omaha Nebraska from 28–30 May. The conference theme “Converging Currents Enhancing Health Outcomes through Interprofessional Collaboration” perfectly aligns with Physiopedia’s commitment to fostering collaborative approaches in rehabilitation worldwide.
1. Building Rehabilitation Workforce Capacity Through the Development of Interprofessional Teams in Ukraine, Pakistan, Uganda, and Myanmar
The first presentation “Building Rehabilitation Workforce Capacity Through the Development of Interprofessional Teams in Ukraine Pakistan Uganda and Myanmar” will take place on Wednesday 28 May. This session explores innovative approaches to strengthening rehabilitation workforces in low and middle income countries where access to rehabilitation services remains severely limited with only 3% of individuals who require rehabilitation able to access services.
The presentation will showcase how interprofessional teams consisting of physical therapists occupational therapists speech and language therapists and prosthetists/orthotists worked collaboratively to strengthen entry-level education programs professional regulation and continuing professional development frameworks. Teams from four countries utilised the International Rehabilitation Education and Training Toolkit (IRETT) to evaluate current practices and implement improvements with guidance from local and international mentors.
2. Expanding International Impact: Interprofessional Collaboration in Rehabilitation Workforce Development Activities
The second presentation “Expanding International Impact Interprofessional Collaboration in Rehabilitation Workforce Development Activities” scheduled for Thursday 29 May will highlight the work of an international interprofessional team from seven countries who developed culturally responsive rehabilitation workforce tools. The initiative demonstrates how collaborative frameworks can respect local healthcare infrastructure education and cultural contexts while creating practical solutions for global rehabilitation challenges.
Angela Patterson of Creighton University will present on behalf of the Physiopedia team sharing valuable insights into successful strategies for cross-cultural collaboration and the creation of adaptable workforce development tools that can be implemented across diverse healthcare settings.
