Physiopedia’s 8 Pillar Strategy for 2026

Rachael Lowe | January 20, 2026

As we launch our strategic plan for 2026, Physiopedia is evolving from a valued resource to an indispensable global platform for physiotherapy education. Our eight strategic priorities respond directly to the challenges and opportunities facing our profession worldwide.

Last year, we undertook a comprehensive strategic review with our volunteers, members and partners across the global physiotherapy community. We asked hard questions, listened carefully and developed a strategic response to what we’re seeing worldwide.

Our mission remains clear: to provide free, high-quality physiotherapy education to professionals globally, supporting learning and career development from student to expert. Our vision is ambitious: to be the world’s most trusted, accessible platform for physiotherapy education and professional development.

But our strategic intent goes further. We’re establishing Physiopedia as the trusted, vetted, human-centred source for physiotherapy knowledge globally, aiming to be an indispensable, tech-enabled platform that actively counters misinformation.

This responds directly to what we’re observing across the profession. Rehabilitation is being systematically devalued globally, including at the World Health Organisation itself. When the world’s leading health organisation dramatically reduces the capacity of its rehabilitation team, when rehabilitation gets framed as “nice to have” rather than essential, the impact cascades through every health system where our colleagues work.

Our first strategic priority is: establishing ourselves as the trusted source in the age of AI. We’re strengthening our editorial quality processes, embedding trust signals throughout the user experience and positioning ourselves clearly against AI-generated misinformation. Success means Physiopedia will become universally recognised as the trusted, quality source for physiotherapy knowledge, cited by universities, clinicians and researchers worldwide.

The graduate readiness crisis we’re hearing about from employers drives our focus on content excellence and learning pathways. We’re not just hosting information, we’re creating structured pathways from student to expert, aligning with CPD frameworks to support career progression and ensuring content quality consistently exceeds expectations. We’re seeing encouraging innovation in education, particularly in lower income countries where rehabilitation professions are building strong foundations despite limited resources. We want to support this movement toward deeper, better education globally.

Our commitment to volunteer community excellence recognises that high-quality physiotherapy education depends on expert practitioners sharing their knowledge. We’re making contributing to Physiopedia professionally meaningful, visible and valuable to career development. As the profession continues to advance globally, we need strong communities of experts creating and curating content that supports this progress and maintains the highest educational standards.

AI disruption shapes our priority for responsible AI integration and innovation. We’re using AI to support content review and translation while maintaining human oversight and protecting trust. Our AI Assistant supports clinical reasoning without compromising patient data, because AI should make us think better, not think less. We know where our answers are coming from and we’ve made data security and patient privacy fundamental to our approach.

Our focus on digital excellence positions Physiopedia as the leading educational platform that universities, clinics, hospitals and member organisations integrate into their CPD and continuing education programmes. We’re developing AI-enhanced learning activities within Physiopedia Plus that no other platform offers, creating personalised learning experiences that adapt to individual needs. This isn’t just about having a good website, it’s about becoming THE educational platform that institutions trust and rely on for their teams’ professional development.

Our commitment to global reach is fundamentally about equity, ensuring every physiotherapy professional, regardless of location, language or economic circumstances, has access to the same quality education. Our goal isn’t just to reach more people, it’s to reach everyone who needs us, creating truly equitable access to professional development opportunities that shouldn’t depend on where you happen to be born or practice.

Financial pressures affect every organisation, which is why sustainable growth is essential. We’re building diversified revenue streams while maintaining our fundamental commitment: keeping Physiopedia free for all users worldwide. Our model means that when someone purchases a Physiopedia Plus membership, they’re not just investing in their own professional development, they’re supporting free access for clinicians in low income countries who otherwise couldn’t afford quality continuing education. This creates a global community where physiotherapists support each other’s learning regardless of economic circumstances.

Finally, our focus on impact and transparency ensures all stakeholders can see Physiopedia’s reach, usage and real-world effect on professional development and patient care. We’re creating accessible dashboards that showcase our global impact. From the 33.8 million users we reach annually across more than 200 countries, to how our courses are being integrated into university curricula and clinical practice. We’re tracking learning outcomes, measuring professional development gains and demonstrating how access to quality education translates into better patient care. This isn’t just about impressive numbers – it’s about showing concrete evidence of how Physiopedia strengthens the profession and ultimately improves lives.

These eight strategic priorities aren’t just internal goals. They represent our response to the forces shaping physiotherapy globally. Every initiative supports one fundamental belief: physiotherapy matters profoundly to patients, communities and health systems.

The challenges facing our profession are real, but so is our collective strength. We’ve adapted to new evidence, technologies and healthcare models before while maintaining our core purpose of helping people move and live better. This time things are moving faster, but with clear strategic focus, strong community support and commitment to our values, we’ll emerge stronger.

Thanks for being part of this profession, this community and this ongoing conversation about our shared future. Whether you’re a student, clinician, academic, volunteer, donor or partner, we’re committed to serving your needs while strengthening physiotherapy globally.
