Walking group outdoors The World Rehabilitation Alliance (WRA), a World Health Organization (WHO) global network supporting the Rehabilitation 2030 initiative, has released a vital policy brief on rehabilitation for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) highlighting the essential role of rehabilitation in improving the quality of life and well-being of people living with NCDs.

The WRA is a WHO global network of stakeholders whose mission is to support the implementation of the Rehabilitation 2030 initiative through advocacy activities. As a founding member, Physiopedia contributes expertise in these global rehabilitation advocacy efforts, specifically related to the rehabilitation workforce.

The brief underscores the essential role of rehabilitation in improving the quality of life and well-being of people living with NCDs, and emphasises the need for quality, accessible and affordable rehabilitation services as a pillar of effective NCD care.

“The core components of rehabilitation for
patients with NCDs include baseline
patient assessment, educational
interventions, risk factor modification,
psychosocial interventions, physical
activity counselling and exercise training.”

The WRA emphasises exercise training and physical activity counselling as core components of rehabilitation for NCD patients. Their call for a “strengthened multidisciplinary, well-trained rehabilitation workforce” aligns perfectly with Physiopedia’s mission. We’ve dedicated ourselves to developing resources that empower rehabilitation professionals worldwide to support people with NCDs through effective physical activity interventions.
