Introduction

Foot ulcers related to diabetic neuropathy are a leading cause of hospitalisation, amputation, disability, and healthcare burden. Diabetic foot ulcers that are not appropriately offloaded are more likely to become "non-healing", develop infection and require hospitalisation and amputation. Knowledge of how proper footwear and offloading can aid foot ulcer prevention and healing are important components of care plans for patients with peripheral neuropathy. This course overviews footwear, offloading, and patient education for individuals with foot neuropathy.

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • discuss how appropriate footwear and offloading can be utilised in the management of the neuropathic foot
