Introduction
Sensory integration is also known as sensory processing. It refers to the ability of our brain to recognise and respond to signals sent by our sensory system. Sensory integration plays an important role in a child's development of social-emotional, motor, cognitive and adaptive skills. Children can be hypo- or hyper-sensitive to sensory inputs. When children have difficulty processing and responding to sensory information, their ability to participate in daily activities can be affected. This course gives a quick overview of sensory integration, its impact on children with cerebral palsy, and common sensory processing challenges. It also provides suggestions for therapeutic interventions to enhance sensory processing.
