Introduction

Clinical education is hands-on training for rehabilitation students in healthcare and community environments. Through clinical education, students get the chance to apply the knowledge they gained in an academic setting to real-life situations with a range of patients. They have opportunities to work in different practice settings, with each setting providing unique opportunities for personal and professional development and hands-on learning.

This course introduces various practice settings and clinical education experiences, before exploring practical issues such as the length of clinical education placements and student progression. This course can benefit students entering clinical education programmes and clinical instructors who are involved in helping students understand expectations and their role during clinical education.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • describe at least three traditional and non-traditional practice settings and the benefits of these settings
  • differentiate between five clinical experiences and the opportunities they provide for the students
