Introduction

This course systematically addresses cervical spine and upper extremity range of motion measurement techniques. It focuses on fundamental aspects of the assessment, including identifying landmarks and using standardised goniometric procedures. It also highlights key safety considerations. Participants will develop proficiency in assessing movement ability across the cervical spine, shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • describe standardised positioning and goniometric measurement techniques for assessing range of motion across all major joints of the cervical spine and upper extremity
  • discuss the capsular patterns of restriction and range of motion normative values for joints of the cervical spine and upper extremity
  • identify common compensatory movement patterns during range of motion testing and strategies to address compensations

Target audience

This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
