Introduction
Posture is a complex, dynamic system that reflects the intricate interplay between biomechanical efficiency, neuromuscular control, and functional adaptation. Understanding posture is fundamental to clinical practice, as postural deviations can serve as contributing factors to and consequences of musculoskeletal dysfunction, pain syndromes, and movement impairments. This course introduces biomechanical and functional concepts that are relevant to posture and discusses clinical assessment techniques.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- describe the anatomical landmarks and biomechanics of optimal standing posture
- discuss the practical interactions between a person’s centre of gravity, base of support, and line of gravity
- discuss common clinical postural syndromes
Target audience
This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
