Introduction
Fractures affect millions globally, with over 455 million cases in 2019 and 8.9 million osteoporotic fractures annually. Rehabilitation professionals must understand common fracture types, causes, and evidence-based management to ensure effective recovery and prevent complications. This course covers upper extremity, lower extremity, and spinal fractures. Participants will learn about fracture mechanisms, demographic trends, and rehabilitation principles to develop clinical reasoning skills for providing safe, effective, and evidence-informed patient care.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- describe the epidemiology, demographic patterns, and injury mechanisms for commonly encountered fractures of the extremities and spine
- discuss conservative versus surgical management approaches for common extremity and spinal fracture types, including the rationale for treatment selection based on fracture stability, displacement, and patient factors
- discuss evidence-based rehabilitation principles including early mobilisation protocols, weight-bearing progressions, and complication prevention strategies for common extremity and spinal fractures

This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
