Introduction

This course explores the anatomy of stroke by following the brain's vascular supply as a clinical roadmap. Beginning with stroke classification and the Circle of Willis, it connects each arterial territory to the deficits you will encounter in practice, building the anatomical foundation for evidence-based stroke rehabilitation.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

• describe stroke by type and mechanism, and the clinical and rehabilitation implications of each classification
• describe the major cerebral arterial territories and the deficits associated with stroke in each territory
• discuss the clinical presentations of less common stroke types (including lacunar stroke, spinal cord infarction, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, and retinal artery occlusion), noting when urgent escalation is required

Target audience

This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.

We expect the required elements to take around 1.5-2 hours depending on your schedule and learning style. Additionally there are many optional resources provided and if you choose to review these the course could take longer to complete.
