Introduction

Each traumatic brain injury case is unique due to complex, varied presentations. This course provides resources to inform clinical reasoning and develop individualised management plans rather than prescriptive treatments. It examines different TBI management phases and reviews best practice guidelines. The course aims to ensure comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines for TBI treatment and management, reviewing current best practices through each stage of traumatic brain injury care.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

• explain the role of the interdisciplinary team in the management of traumatic brain injury
• discuss the use of clinical guidelines in the management of traumatic brain injury
• justify the role of the physiotherapist in the different stages of traumatic brain injury management
• identify three impacts of increasing age on post-traumatic brain injury
• correctly identify at least 2 effects a traumatic brain injury has on the psychosocial aspects of an individual

Target audience

This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
