This course is part of a programme:

Introduction

The complexity of the hip and its relationship with the lumbar spine and pelvis makes the assessment of this joint particularly challenging. This course provides a systematic, evidence-based approach to hip evaluation: from subjective history through objective examination and special testing. It aims to help rehabilitation professionals accurately identify whether symptoms arise from intra-articular pathology, extra-articular soft-tissue dysfunction, or referred pain from adjacent structures to formulate effective, targeted treatment plans.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • identify the components of L-M-N-O-P-Q-R-S-T mnemonic specific to the hip subjective history and red flags requiring immediate medical referral
  • discuss the contributions of the hip and lumbar spine to movement limitations through strategic positioning during range of motion assessment
  • describe evidence-based special tests appropriately for conditions such as labral tears, femoroacetabular impingement, and gluteal tendinopathy

Target audience

This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
