Introduction

Knee pain is a significant issue worldwide, causing mobility and functional limitations, and accounting for approximately 5% of visits to primary care providers. Many acute and chronic knee conditions respond favourably to rehabilitation, but successful outcomes depend on accurate assessment. Rehabilitation professionals must be able to conduct a systematic evaluation to identify conditions suitable for rehabilitation and optimise outcomes. This course introduces the essential components of a comprehensive knee assessment for rehabilitation professionals.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • describe the key components of the subjective and objective assessment of the knee and the use of the L-M-N-O-P-Q-R-S-T mnemonic for history-taking
  • select a likely diagnosis for a patient with knee pain in a simple case scenario
