Introduction
This course provides an overview of the range of motion assessment. It distinguishes between active, active-assisted, and passive range of motion, and highlights the clinical significance of assessing end-feel and recognising capsular versus non-capsular patterns of restriction. It addresses common sources of measurement error, emphasises the importance of standardised positioning and stabilisation. It also provides guidance on when a range of motion assessment may be contraindicated or require modified approaches.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course you will be able to:
- differentiate between active, active-assisted, and passive range of motion
- identify end-feel characteristics and patterns of restriction (i.e., capsular and non-capsular)
- describe standardised goniometric measurement techniques
Target audience
This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
