Three new AI features on Physiopedia Plus (Plus) move beyond passive learning: embedding the Physiopedia AI Assistant (PAI) into courses, matching learners to the right content and building towards real-time reflection on clinical practice.
Too much online continuing education and professional development follows the same pattern: watch, answer a quiz, move on. Knowledge is acquired but rarely applied. Plus has been working on this problem for a while. PAI, our AI assistant built exclusively on Physiopedia’s evidence-based content, has already been used by more than 20,000 physiotherapy professionals across over 100,000 conversations. The new features in Plus build on that foundation, embedding AI more deeply into the learning experience to connect education to clinical practice.
1. AI learning activities are now embedded in courses
PAI is now woven into courses on Plus, not bolted on but built in.
What this looks like in practice:
- AI-enhanced case studies and clinical scenarios: learners work through real-world cases with PAI as a thinking partner, exploring differential reasoning and management decisions in a safe, low-stakes environment.
- Interactive knowledge checks: questions that prompt learners to apply and explain their thinking, not just recall facts.
- PAI-supported reflection: learners use PAI to consolidate learning, deepen understanding and connect course content to their own clinical practice.
PAI draws exclusively on Physiopedia’s evidence-based content, not the open internet, so learners are working within a trusted, professionally curated knowledge base.
2. Course recommender
We have launched a course recommender on the Plus courses page, powered by PAI. Popular course lists tend to reflect what most people have done, not what any individual actually needs next. The recommender works differently.
It looks at courses a learner has already completed, asks about their topic of interest, current and target knowledge level and what is driving their learning decision, then suggests courses matched to where they actually are.
This is particularly useful for organisations using Plus for CE and CPD compliance or structured staff development, where helping people find the right next step matters as much as access to content.
3. Coming Soon: Reflection on daily practice
Plus already includes guided reflection at the end of courses, helping learners consolidate what they have just covered and think about how to apply it in practice. What we are building next takes that further.
The new tool is designed to support ongoing reflection on daily clinical practice itself, helping practitioners identify learning gaps and development opportunities in real time, not just after completing a course. More on this soon.
