Introduction

Fracture rehabilitation in conflicts and disasters is frequently complicated as patients often present with complex poly-trauma. Complications can even occur alongside simple fractures. This course examines assessment and treatment considerations for fractures and highlights some of the common complications seen in disaster and conflict settings.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

• describe fracture pathology, fracture classification, common complications and implications for early rehabilitation
• identify early rehabilitation goals for patients with fractures in disaster and conflict situations
• discuss education and advice regarding recovery and secondary complications of fractures

Target audience

This course is aimed at rehabilitation professionals, students and assistants including but not limited to Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Rehabilitation Doctors, Rehabilitation Nurses, Prosthetists, Orthotists, Psychologists, Audiologists, Dietetics, Social Workers. Community Health Workers, Nurses or Medical Doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
