Introduction

The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is a major stabiliser of the knee, and injuries can have significant long-term consequences if not managed appropriately. Conservative management can achieve strong functional outcomes, including high rates of return to sport. This course introduces PCL injuries, contrasts conservative and surgical management, and outlines the key components of a conservative rehabilitation programme.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • identify the functions of the PCL and mechanisms of injury
  • discuss indications for conservative and surgical management of PCL injuries
  • describe the key precautions, a phased rehabilitation approach, and return-to-sport criteria for conservative PCL management

Target audience

This course is aimed at Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy clinicians, students and assistants. Other interested professionals such as athletic trainers, occupational therapists, nurses or medical doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
