Introduction

Cerebral palsy is a heterogeneous, non-progressive neuromotor disorder that affects movement and posture. Children with cerebral palsy all present differently, with a wide range of functional abilities. This course focuses on children with a Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) of Level 5 - these are children who require a wheelchair for mobility at all times. In this course, Dr. Dana Mather demonstrates how she assesses and treats a young school-aged child. You'll see how Dana adapts her interventions to ensure that physiotherapy is active, fun and engaging. Learning outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

• identify the three types of cerebral palsy and the five levels of the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS)
• describe at least three components of the physiotherapy assessment for a child with low-functioning cerebral palsy
• discuss at least two key interventions for children with low-functioning cerebral palsy

Target audience

This course is aimed at rehabilitation professionals, students and assistants including but not limited to Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Rehabilitation Doctors, Rehabilitation Nurses, Prosthetists, Orthotists, Psychologists, Audiologists, Dietetics, Social Workers. Community Health Workers, Nurses or Medical Doctors interested in this subject are also invited to participate.
