Introduction

Ideally rehabilitation will begin prior to amputation surgery. As a minimum, it should start immediately following surgery. This course will help you to understand both the pre- and post-amputation assessment as well as the initial management of this patient. It was a great, all-encompassing course for managing the acute amputation patient. It increases proactive management of phantom limb pain, falls, and psychological coping with limb loss. I will be taking these suggestions back to my daily work on an acute care floor to improve patient outcomes throughout their rehab journeys.

The course discusses the difficulties we face with amputees and how we can avoid these difficulties by communicating with patients before and after amputations and giving them the proper advice and exercises.

It is a very interesting course! It allows me to review my clinical practice in amputee management. I used to stay in my corner doing my intervention and refer when necessary. Today I understood the importance of working together with other professionals and sharing the outcome to maximize the functional independence of the patient.
